Sally...

We had some sad news today at the office. The beloved dog of our CEO passed away last night. She lived a full and long life, she was 13 years old, and it was time. I'm so thankful that she passed peacefully, but it's still sad. It's amazing how attached we become to our animals, even when they aren't our own. Sally would come in almost every day with her mom and hang out at the store. She was one of the sweetest and loving dogs I have ever known. Our CEO loved her dog dearly, she was her baby and even though her death was inevidable, it is still hard. Please pray for her as she goes through the grieving of her dear pet. Here's a picture of Sal-Sal, as we called her. We'll miss you girl.

Robe l'Anglaise Progress

Hi Everyone,

I have been slowly working on my robe l'anglaise round gown for a couple of weeks now. I say slowly, because I usually zip through my projects as fast as I can. On this project, I'm taking my sweet time, sewing a little bit in the evenings and on the weekends. It's been very relaxing and fun.

I also made another straw hat for picnics and strolls and other such events. I took a straw hat and shaped it so the front brim dips down and the back flips up a bit. I then added some wired ribbon around the crown and pleated the top layer. Then I made a bow out of green ribbon for the back.

Here are some pictures of both the bodice and the hat. God Bless!!!

Have a great week!

We're Being Stalked!!!

Well, actually, Birdy Boy is being stalked. Every morning when I come out of the shower and go into our bedroom, I find a Raven sitting on the wire outside of the window staring at Gico. It's been there for over a month now. I'm thinking it knows we have a small bird inside and he wants to eat him. Gico hates seeing it; his little feathers squish against his body and he makes a cricket sounding noise that he always makes when he's nervous.
This morning, I took Aaron to school during my normal "getting ready for work" time. I also brought Gico bird with me, because he absolutely loves car rides. Well, low and behold there was the Raven, sitting on the telephone wire staring at us. I held Gico tightly in my hand, but he still saw the Raven and started making his "there it is again!" noise. The Raven followed our every move and starred at us as we drove away.

I'm not sure what to do about this Raven. The birds I had before Gico used to be stalked by Ravens all the time when we lived in Arizona. Eventually, the Ravens realized they couldn't get to them and it wasn't worth the trouble. I hope this is what happens here.

Well, that's all for my story du jour. I hope you have a wonderful week. God Bless!

Note: This isn't the same Raven, just a pic I found online :-)

Birdy on the Brain

Okay, so most of you have heard the expression "baby on the brain." Well, I have birdy on the brain. It's a condition that affects parrot lovers causing them to crave more birds, not unlike mother's wanting another baby. This "condition" has caught up with me, and I have it bady. I really want another parrot; so much so that I keep having dreams about them. Anyway, I've been told I have to wait a couple of years, which is fine, and then "we'll see." That answer has come quite a long way from "no more birds ever." So, we're making progress :-) I plan on adopting a parrot, rather than buying. There is a wonderful parrot rescue group down in Eugene that I think we'll be getting our future flock member from. Now, if I can just be patient for a few years....Here's a picture of the type of bird I want to add to our flock :-) Enjoy!

Here's a link to the Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon. They have a number of birds up for adoption right now. So if you're looking for one, check here first before buying a parrot.

God Bless and have a wonderful weekend!

Fun with the Kids :-)

Yesterday, as promised, we spent the afternoon and evening with our dear friends, Cheryl and Tim. They recently purchased their own house and are just getting settled. Well, said house has a gianormous back yard that is fenced in and perfect for fetch and running. Auntie Cheryl and Uncle Tim invited us and the kids over for a nice play in the yard, a yummy supper, and some quality time. Max-a-Moose and Leila Lu played and Gico birdy had some nice bonding time with the parakeets. He and Pippin bird shared a piece of lettuce, it was very cute. It was a wonderful day and lots of fun was had by all. Here are some pictures and a video of our time with our friends. God Bless~

A Feast for the Eyes and Soul...

Hello dear readers and friends. I hope you are all well. I know I haven't been posting as I should, life, particularly on the job front, has been stressful. But things are calming down a bit and it's almost the weekend!!!!! I'm so ready for my nice two days off with my hubby and the fur and feather kids. In fact, tomorrow we have some special plans. Aaron and I have never been the type to celebrate Valentines Day and this year is no different. This year we are going to another couple's house, very dear friends of ours, to have a fur baby play date. Auntie Cheryl and Uncle Tim, as they are known to the kids, are having us over to play in their HUGE backyard. The pups are so excited everytime I mention it. Yes, they know what Auntie Cheryl and Uncle Tim means. So we shall be spending out Saturday watching the babies play and having some much needed fellowship with our friends.

Okay, now for the meat of this post.... The Portland Art Museum is having a special exhibit that runs through May. I'm super excited about this exhibit (drum roll please). They are presenting La volupté du goût: French Painting in the Age of Madame de Pompadour. Yes, it is an exibit of 18th century art from artists patronized by Madame de Pompadour. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. These works of art surrounded the residents of Versailles. If only they could speak, the things they have seen and been part of. The history that they have survived. As Anne Shirley would say, the thought of these paintings thrill me. I can't wait to see the exhibit. Here is just a taste of what they will be showing.

God Bless!

Adventures in 18th Century Fans

Hello everyone in blog land, I hope you are all doing well. I'm getting over a nasty cold that turned into bronchitis and sinusitis, woohoo. Anyway, I went to see the doctor yesterday and she gave me some nice drugs. I should be back to normal in a few days.

During my annoying cold and forced resting. I'm a horrible patient and I hate just lying around all day. I love being home but I have to have something to do and I hate not being able to go on walks or work out. Anyway, I started researching 18th century fans. I've been wanting a more authentic one for some time, but no one makes them. So I decided I would paint my cheap bamboo stick paper fan. I spent all day today painting away, and amazing I did the whole thing in about 4 hours. It was so relaxing and fun. I used gouache and a gold metallic pen. It's not perfect, I haven't painted since collage, but it sure was fun. Now I have a better fan for reenacting. Enjoy :-)

Me (without makeup, scary) being silly.

Well, that is all for now. I am still working on my dress planning. I haven't purchased any fabric yet, but I hope to in the next couple of weeks. I have to work out some kinks in the design still. God Bless!
